If you or someone you care about has concerns about hearing health, we invite you to make an appointment for a free, comprehensive hearing assessment. If no hearing loss is found, we will be the first to let you know. However, if hearing loss is diagnosed, we will take the time to explain the type and degree of hearing loss you have. Your Beltone Hearing Care Professional will be able to recommend the hearing device that is best suited to your particular hearing loss, and to your lifestyle and budget. In many cases, an individual’s medical insurance may help with the cost.
Beltone understands that many people find it difficult to admit they are experiencing hearing loss, and may become anxious about having a hearing test. It helps to know beforehand exactly what you can expect when you arrive at our office for your hearing evaluation. To begin, we will cover your medical history and collect your insurance information. You will be asked a number of questions pertaining to your overall health, as well as some history about your hearing. Your Hearing Care Practitioner will also need to know of any medications you may be taking because many over-the-counter and prescription medications can be harmful (ototoxic) to your hearing.
The next part of your hearing evaluation will be a visual examination of your ears with an otoscope. Some of the conditions that can be seen through this device include signs of ear infection, wax buildup and ear drum perforations. These types of conditions can contribute to hearing loss and need to be treated by your family doctor. Once these possible issues have been eliminated, you are ready to have your hearing tested. You will be given a set of headphones and asked to indicate when you hear certain sounds and tones, and certain speech patterns.
