Dating back to 3,000 B.C., yoga — which literally means to unite, combines movement and breathing and often includes meditation. Experts at the Arthritis Foundation and Johns Hopkins Arthritis Center are increasingly recommending yoga as part of a therapeutic regimen, and point to the growing number of studies that show that certain yoga poses are effective in reducing stiffness, pain, swelling and a limited range of joint motion.
