Tips to Stay On Track With Your New Years Resolutions

2017 is over and 2018 is upon us.  This is the time of the year where people re-evaluate their lives and make plans for the new year to better themselves.  One of the most common resolutions is to develop and create a healthy lifestyle.

Eating right an exercising more is a great way to stay healthy, but the trick is to create a schedule and stay on that schedule.  Here are some tips to stay on track.

Strengthen Your Intention
Keep in mind why you are doing what you are doing.  Even just a few days into your routine you may feel like giving up.  remember the importance of why you chose the specific resolution you did.  If it is because of health reasons, remember that it can be difficult to make big changes in your diet and routine, but it is important in the long run.

Remember this "why" reason multiple times a day.  If you have to, put reminders around your house with images on the fridge or walls.  You can even schedule an alarm to go off every day to remind you to keep up the good work.  Setting your mind to your goal is the most important step in accomplishing it.

"Layer" the Changes
Don't make huge changes immediately because that could discourage you.  If you plan on keeping a resolution, it is best to start small and work your way up.  Imagine your resolution like you are building a house.  Create it layer by layer and you will see it get bigger and slowly become complete.  If you have a resolution to eat healthy, try by adding vegetables to your lunch every day.  Then add it to dinner, then eat healthier breakfasts.  Start slowly and you can get better and better.

There is no such thing as a quick fix
You can't "snap your fingers" and things will immediately change for the better.  This is where "layer the changes" comes in.  You have to start small and build bigger.  If you are someone who hasn't exercised at all, and then try to run 3 miles a day, you will become discouraged by how difficult it is.  If you want to lose weight, you can't change your diet to 2 protein shakes a day immediately.

You need to start slowly and work your way to a solid routine that doesn't exhaust you or discourage you to stop.
There are a ton of resolutions people come up with every year.  Some people keep them, others do not.  the most important thing to remember when it comes to keeping your resolution is to have your mind set properly and create a routine that is fun and exciting for you.
