Michael D. Murphy was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1950. A New Yorker who moved first to South Central Pennsylvania then to East Tennessee. Michael holds several degrees; a b.a. in social science; a graduate certificate in social service and a master's degree all from Fordham University in NY. He began a career in human services in NYC as a volunteer and is currently a national board certified hearing instrument specialist for Beltone South. He began with Beltone in 2001 in Central PA. He has attained master and advanced Master practitioner while serving the hearing impaired public. Michael is married for 43 years with four children. He is also a committed Christian.

Sara Varnell is the Hearing Instrument Specialist at the Athens Beltone office. When you visit our office, Sara will be the person guiding your way to better hearing health. Sara is a lifelong resident of Cleveland and lives in Athens with her husband, daughter, and son. At a young age, Sara was diagnosed with a profound hearing loss and as a result, like many of our patients, wears hearing aids as well! Sara has always had a passion for advocating for, educating, and supporting those with significant hearing losses, making her a great fit for caring for our patients.

She loves being a partner in every family's journey to better communication. Sarah enjoys gardening, fishing, and exploring the beautiful Tennessee countryside with her family.
