What to Expect at Your First Beltone Visit Here for You Every Step of the Way

If hearing loss is making communicating with your family and friends difficult, the hearing care professionals at your local Beltone office are ready to help.

Office Visit Step by Step

Receive personalized care from Beltone at each step of your journey to better hearing. It all starts with a visit to your local Beltone office.

Step 1: Receive Your Free Hearing Assessment

During your first visit to your local Beltone office, you’ll receive a free hearing assessment to determine if you are experiencing hearing loss.

The hearing assessment is a painless and non-invasive process that will help your hearing care professional make an initial assessment of your hearing health and, if needed, recommend the best hearing aids for you.

Step 2: Review Your Lifestyle and Health History

After your hearing assessment, your Beltone hearing care professional will review your health history and lifestyle. For example, they will ask about any health conditions and medications you take and inquire about your everyday activities. Some other questions might include:

  • Do you enjoy spending time outdoors?

  • Do you frequent restaurants and other public spaces?

  • Do you enjoy television, music, movies or lectures?

  • Do you work, or are you retired?

Your answers to questions like these will help your hearing care professional determine which hearing aids will work best for you.

Step 3: Complete and Review Your Audiogram

If your hearing assessment shows you have hearing loss, you will complete an audiogram, which will measure the type and severity of your specific hearing loss.

Using advanced hearing testing equipment, we’ll assess your hearing through a series of tests that will tell us what frequencies you are missing. These tests will focus on a wide variety of sounds, including speech sounds and your ability to discriminate between certain words.

Your hearing care professional will go over the results with you and recommend hearing aids that will address your hearing loss. Your hearing care professional will help you try on a variety of hearing aids to determine which one is most comfortable.

Step 4: Receive Your Hearing Aids and Enjoy Ongoing Care

Once you receive your hearing aids, your hearing care professional will make periodic adjustments to ensure they are perfectly tuned to your needs.

You’ll also receive a series of emails inviting you to complete Beltone’s Great Start Program, which is designed to quickly and simply show you how to make the most of your new hearing aids.

How Long Do Hearing Tests Take?

Hearing tests can take anywhere from 30-minutes to an hour, depending on your hearing care professional, the severity of your hearing loss, whether you’ve had a hearing test before and a few other factors.

How Should I Prepare For My Hearing Test?

  • Make sure you’re healthy: Sickness, especially colds or flu, can affect the accuracy of your hearing test due to mucous buildups in the middle ear.

  • Steer clear of loud noises: Loud noises can temporarily impact your hearing quality, affecting the test results. Be mindful of this and avoid exposure to noisy environments, like concerts, in the hours leading up to your hearing test.

  • Bring someone you trust: If you’re a first-time visitor to a hearing care professional, consider bringing a friend or family member along to ease any apprehensions. Having someone accompany you provides an extra set of ears for important information. It allows them to share insights on any observed hearing loss symptoms.

  • Bring something to take notes with: A pen and paper can help with recording the results of your test and any relevant details provided by your hearing care professional.
